Festival Background

Well, back to those jam sessions...and as I said before...over time folks age. You know how some days you feel your get up and go has got up and went without telling you? Many of those original mover and shakers that started the jam sessions many moons ago now had more demands on their time as well as obligations. So gradually, an idea began to simmer and take hold. Tim Spreight made a suggestion at a club meeting in early 1997 that Tralalla put together a music festival. It was a pretty ambitious undertaking for an itty bitty community. That first year of planning was quite an adventure, there were a lot of hiccups along the way.

On Saturday August 23, 1997 TCC debuted it's very first Tralalla Music Festival at Wauntya Peninsula Park. Papa Dragon was our headliner and we had six other bands for our first event. We had about 500 folks show up at our very first festival. We were so surprised! We weren't sure how the festival would fare. Over time, its improved each year as we get better at hosting it in our little corner of the world. It's become quite the annual summer happening. It's certainly no state fair, but there is always something for everyone. Often times our attendance breaks 1000 entries at the gate. Not too shabby for little old Tralalla!

In addition to our day of music, there are a lot of other things going on. There are activities, balloon animals, and games for the kids. There is also an afternoon kids parade. Many community organizations have booths and displays. Examples include the Feral Feline Rescue (Cat rescue group), Peninsula Pet Rescue (Think welfare/rescue group for all other animals!), Empty Cupboards (Food Bank), scouting groups, and our local Quilting Bee. Another cool thing is our annual pie auction. Our local community ladies get together in a commercial kitchen and have a "Bake Off." The pies are then judged and the remaining slices are auctioned off to the highest bidder. Of course we also have more slices of pie to sell to festival goers. We wouldn't want you to miss out on one of the sweetest parts of the day!

Speaking of food, we always have a wide range of food vendors come to the festival. The offerings do change a bit from year to year. We've had shave ice, Thai food, roasted corn, an espresso truck, BBQ, hamburgers, hotlinks, kettle corn, baked goods, elephant ears, and other kinds of yummy goodies. I wonder what will be there this year? Darn! Now my stomach is growling!!
